When did the Church become afraid of death and Hell?

Jesus defeated death and smashed the gates of Hell on His way home – yet we have become afraid of those very things!

We avoid any mention of Hell at all and we censor anyone who brings up the subject. We dismiss them as ignorant ‘hellfire and brimstone’ fanatics.

It’s time to show some guts and face Hell and death. There is no better day to do that than Hallowe’en. I have written about this before in my blogs: Re-possessing Hallowe’en and Hope for All Souls – a new day. You might want to check them out too.

Hallowe’en is a Christian Feast Day. It is the Feast of All Souls, the hallowed evening before the Feast of All Saints -Holyevening. Like Christmas day and Easter there is power/anointing released on Hallowe’en. Fear has stolen that power from the Church and handed it straight to hell. It is time to jump back into the celebration with both feet.

I have written 4 little books to introduce people to other things they resist hearing about:
Hell, Purgatory, the Lake of Fire and Salvation. I call them the ‘What the hell’ series. I am trying to goad people into looking at the things they fear, those things they try to hide away in the bottom of their psyche and never look at. So, What the hell is Hallowe’en? It is our chance to test faith – to see if we really do believe that death and Hell are defeated.

If Jesus really did defeat death – those who are in Christ have no reason to fear it. If Hell is broken and some of its prisoners have already broken out – there is no reason we cannot go back and finish the job. Saints cannot go to Hell as prisoners but we can go into Hell as Conquerors – to rescue those who do not belong there! That is what I teach about on my website www.salvationinhell.com

What kind of a leap must we take to conquer our fear of death and Hell?

It takes courage to meditate on all that Jesus suffered in His death and resurrection. We have to enter into that suffering because that is the same suffering which our neighbours are enduring right now. The good news they need to hear from Christians is that Jesus suffered the very hell they are in now! And that He offers them a way out of it! The gospel is not some religious, mystical theory. It is the news that our neighbour is dying to hear!

Re-possess Hallowe’en begins with us carrying the cross with Jesus up the hill to Golgotha, descending into Hell with Him to witness all He suffered there (which we would have suffered otherwise) and then rising with Him in the glorious resurrection of Easter Sunday. Once we have made that journey in our spirit we have Hell-shattering news to tell.

The Gospel is a Human Right

All the souls God ever created or will create, have the right to hear that news. 2 Peter 3:9  “The Lord is … not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance”. YHWH never wills the perishing of any soul. He wills for them to repent and know His love but that is their choice. What is not their choice is whether they will get the chance to make that choice. God’s will declares that they must be given such an opportunity.

Hallowe’en is the day designated for the Church to stand up for the rights of the dead. It is the day we are to remember the right of all souls to hear the gospel and choose whether to accept or reject it. We will never win a battle that we refuse to fight. It is time for the Church to stand up to death and Hell, like Jesus did.

Up until now, Christians have colluded with Satan to suppress all discussion of Hell. We have gone out trick or treating as cowards dressed up in religious robes. It is time to go Soulling again. It is time to once again offer prayers and assistance for the dead who do not belong in Hell. And it is time to stand with our neighbours to deliver them from the hells they are in.

Only telling the good news of Jesus’ defeat of death and Hell can deliver the living and the dead from Hell’s power. But we will not deliver the full power of the Gospel message until we overcome our fear of death and Hell ourselves. Look Hell in the face. Participate in the power of Hallowe’en – Repossess it for the sake of All Souls.
